Wrap yourself up with this sweet little pair of shawlettes. Both shawlettes are knit in one piece (including the edging!) from tip to tip. The Flame Shawlette features an allover diamond lace pattern, while the Flicker Shawlette has areas of the diamond lace pattern selectively removed creating an asymmetrical design twist on an otherwise traditional pattern.
Finished, blocked shawlettes measure approximately 66” (168 cm) wide along the top edge and 14” (36 cm) long at center. With this generous wingspan, Flicker and Flame can be worn in a variety of ways.
Allow approximately 445 yds (407 m) of fingering weight yarn for each shawlette. My samples were knit using 2 1.75 oz/50 gr (230 yd/210 m) skeins each of Knit Picks Capretta (80% Fine Merino Wool, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon). The Flame Shawlette was knit in the Wine colorway, while Flicker was knit in the Turmeric colorway. Capretta is deliciously soft against the skin and is a delightful yarn to knit.
This downloadable, PDF pattern is fully charted, but a few beginning rows are written out to assist beginning chart readers in following along.
Whether your preference is a traditional pattern or your interest lies with a more asymmetrical design, one or both of these shawlettes is sure to please. Full pattern details for the Flicker and Flame Shawlettes can be found here.
