An aran weight hat pattern just in time for the cooler temps, this time worked in classic tweed. Autumn Flora features a twisted ribbing that diminishes into pointed arches that, in turn, trail into the body of the hat before transforming into the stems of large, oval leaves.
Autumn Flora is a quick, warm knit using a single skein of aran weight yarn. Our samples were knit using Knit Picks City Tweed Aran/ HW (55% Merino wool, 25% Superfine Alpaca, 20% Donegal Tweed) in Blue Blood (maroon) and Tahitian Pearl (gray). This tweed yarn is super soft, but with great stitch definition and if you like tweed, you won’t be disappointed. There is an abundance of “tweedlets” in there – lots of flecks of color!
Autumn Flora is worked in one size and fits an adult head size of approximately 21” – 24” (53.5 cm – 61 cm). Blocked hat circumference is approximately 19.5” (49.5 cm), unstretched. The twisted rib makes this hat very stretchy. Fit is relaxed and comfortable – not beanie tight, nor slouchy hat loose. Hat length is approximately 8.5” (21.5 cm). Instructions for modifying the length should you wish a longer or shorter hat are included.
The downloadable, PDF pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit to reduce the potential for error. The pattern is charted, but also features complete written line by line instructions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.
The shaped twisted rib makes for some interesting knitting as there are a couple variations of CDD in there to maintain the twisted stitch throughout! A little stitch dancing, let’s say.
