This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit to reduce the potential for error.

SIZE(S):

Finished horse measures approx 8.25” (21 cm) tall at the tip of his ears and  and 9” (22.86 cm) from nose to tail. 

CHARTED/WRITTEN:

The pattern is fully charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.

GAUGE:

15 sts/31 rows to 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in blocked, moderately stretched garter stitch.

Horse is worked flat and then seamed using mattress stitch.

To work this pattern, you will need to know:

  • Backwards loop cast-on
  • Knit and purl stitches
  • Slipped stitches
  • Increase stitches – KFB
  • Decrease stitches – K2TOG, SSK, CDD
  • Simple seaming using mattress stitch

YARN:

Clancy:
Allow approx 70 yds (64 m) aran/chunky weight yarn in medium brown (body). Allow approx 28 yds (25.6 m) aran/chunky weight yarn in black (socks). Allow approx 30 yds (27.4 m) fingering weight yarn in black (forelock, mane and tail). Allow approx 15 yds (13.7 m) fingering weight yarn in natural (feathers and blaze).

Other horses detailed in pattern. Requirements are similar.

NEEDLES:

US 6 (4 mm) straight or circular needle
Or any size needed to obtain a firm finished fabric.

NOTIONS:

US G (4.25 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry/blunt yarn needle
1 20 oz (567 g) bag polyester fiber fill (will stuff several
horses)
2 10mm safety eyes per horse – hand press lock (brown
or use your preferred color – Percy has blue!)
3”/7.6 cm x 8”/20.3 piece cardboard
3”/7.6 cm x 4”/10.2 cm piece cardboard

5 – 8mm Silver Jump Rings
21”/53.3 cm – 3/16”/.5 cm Deerskin Lace Leather Cording
