With a bit of nordic style, the Solstice Horse Hat is an engaging knit with seven prancing horses around its circumference. Add an easy colorwork border and an interesting decrease to evenly distribute the stitches above your herd and your horse hat will be ready for your next wintry ride whether on horseback or skis.

SIZE(S):
Hat fits an adult head size of approx 21” – 23” (53.5 cm – 58.4 cm). Additional sizes available by changing needle sizes or working more/fewer pattern repeats or rounds.
CHARTED/WRITTEN:
Color work and crown shaping are charted (ribbing is not). Includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.
GAUGE:
24 stitches/26 rounds to 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch colorwork, blocked.
Hat is cast on using a crochet provisional cast-on that is the basis for a tubular cast-on. Ribbing is then worked in the round. A change to larger sized needles is made and the work then continues in the round and transitions to the body of the hat. Instructions are provided for using either cable cast-on or long tail cast-on as alternative cast on methods.
Pompom utilizes approx 32 yds (30 m) of yarn. Pompom yardage is included in yarn requirements.
Hat features an attractive decrease and looks just as lovely without a pompom should you wish to forego this extra embellishment.

- Tubular Cast-On (explained), Longtail or Cable Cast-On (optional)
