Finally…I think spring is getting around to making its presence here known. There are a few violets popping up in the lawn and I just saw my first dandelion the other day.
So much cold and clouds inspired me to do something fun to pull myself out of the doldrums – enhanced by the fact that Joann Fabric is closing its doors! It’s one of the few places you can get nice fabric around here. I am so sad over that. As I was walking Joann’s now somewhat bare aisles, I came upon the The Woobles kits and the bright, cheery yarn also by The Woobles that you can buy by the skein. Even the names are cute – Happily Ever Lavender as an example.
So, I grabbed a couple of skeins (What’s Up Buttercup and Evergreen Goddess) to play around with. I wasn’t sure how it would knit, but it actually knits quite well. And, no splitting as it is a knit, stuffed tube – no plies at all. Easily frogged too, if you lose your way.
Well, my playing around netted me this guy. He’s quite the character with attitude to match his “leaf-do”. Let me introduce Spike The Pineapple. Spike is worked in a stitch that, I think, really gives the impression of the pineapple texture. And it’s not difficult to do (though you do have to drop a few stitches – hiss! boo! eek!).
Gauge is not critical with Spike, except that you want to get a somewhat firm fabric so that his guts don’t show through. And I’m just waiting to see what expressions you come up with for your version of Spike.
As always, this downloadable, PDF pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit to reduce the potential for error.
