Summer brings with it lush greens, breathtaking vistas and the sounds of all the creatures that are happy for the return of warm days. Thoreau’s Pond is named for such places; where we can reflect and take in the beauty of nature.

Bias, slightly asymmetric shaping and easy stitch work create interesting, textural striping. Shawl looks great worked in summery, crisp linen blend yarns, but is equally suited to lightweight wool and wool blends. Knit it in your favorite neutral like I did, or jazz it up with a pop of color!

SIZE(S):

Finished, blocked shawl measures approximately 67” (170 cm) wide along neck edge and 25” (64 cm) in depth. Size is easily adjusted by working more or fewer pattern repeats. Instructions are included for modifying size.

CHARTED/WRITTEN:

The pattern is fully charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.

GAUGE:

26 sts/36 rows to 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in Pattern Stitch A, blocked.

Gauge is not crucial, but if not adhered to, can have a substantial impact on the amount of yarn required to complete the project. Please be sure you allow enough yarn for variances in gauge.

Shawl is worked on the bias starting at the right tip and ending at the left edge.

Blocking is especially essential for a successful finished project with this pattern. An aggressive blocking will really open up the textured stitches, giving them a light, airy appearance.

  • Increase and decrease stitches – K2TOG, KFB
  • Slip stitches
