SIZE(S):
- Small – approximately 55” (140 cm) wide along top edge and 25” (64 cm) long at center.
- Medium – approximately 62” (157 cm) wide and 28” (71 cm) long at center.
- Large – approximately 69” (175 cm) wide and 31” (79 cm) long at center.
CHARTED/WRITTEN:
The pattern is fully charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.
GAUGE:
18 stitches/33 rows to 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch, blocked.
Gauge is not critical, but please keep in mind that a different gauge will result in different finished dimensions as well as changing your yarn requirements. Please make sure you have sufficient yarn! This shawl is worked from the bottom up so having enough yarn is critical.
Shawl is worked from the bottom up in three panels: left and right triangular side panels (bordered on the outer-most edge with a garter selvedge) and separated by a center panel. Shawl selvedge is completed at top neck edge via a short row garter tab.
To work this pattern, you will need to know:
- Cable cast on
- Knit and purl stitches
- Increase and decrease stitches – YO, SSK, K2TOG, SSSK, K3TOG, CDD
- Short rows (no wrapping) – very short, very easy!
- Kitchener Stitch – only a 3 st join, no worries!
- Twisted stitches
YARN:
545 – 853 yards (498 – 780 m) of light worsted weight yarn.
A yarn with good stitch definition and little to no halo is recommended. Slight tonals work well, but highly variegated yarn will distract from the lace pattern.
NEEDLES:
US 6 (4 mm) 40” (100 cm) circular
Or any size needed to obtain correct gauge and length to suit number of stitches.
NOTIONS:
Tapestry/blunt yarn needle
Stitch markers (2)
T-pins
