NOTE: This original design pattern is the copyrighted property of Melissa Burke, Apiary Knits, and is intended for the personal use of the original purchaser only. Please do not reproduce or distribute this pattern (in whole or in part) without express written permission from Melissa Burke, Apiary Knits.

This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit to reduce the potential for error.

SIZE(S):

One size. Beret fits an adult head size of approximately 21” – 23” (53 cm – 58 cm).

CHARTED/WRITTEN:

The pattern is fully charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.

GAUGE:

Using larger-sized needles, 14 stitches/18 rounds to 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch, unblocked.

The Frostbitten Beret is knit in the round from the bottom up.

Blocking is especially essential for a successful finished project with this pattern. The lace will really open up when blocked and the finished circumference/dimensions will be significantly larger than before blocking.

To work this pattern, you will need to know:

  • Knit and purl stitches
  • Increase and decrease stitches – YO, K2TOG, SSK, SL1 K2TOG PSSO
  • Twisted stitches – KTBL

YARN:

100 – 105 yards (91 – 96 m) of bulky weight yarn.

A bulky weight yarn with good stitch definition and little to no halo is recommended. Slight tonals will work, but variegated yarn will distract from the lace pattern.

NEEDLES:

US 9 (5.5 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular
US 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular
US 10.5 (6.5 mm) 7” (20 cm) double-pointed needles
Or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.

NOTIONS:
